About

My early childhood was spent in Loves Park, IL. We were the only Black family in this small, rural city. And not only that, I was the only Black child in my 1st grade class, as well in the entire school. My father moved our family to St. Albans, Queens, in New York City, when I entered the 2nd grade.

At Andrew Jackson H.S., I was a member of our championship track team, and later earned a track scholarship to Tennessee A & State University, an HBCU in Nashville, TN. Prior to my enrollment at TSU, I had never had a Black teacher.

All this is to say, that I grew up in both all-white and all-Black worlds, and these realities contribute greatly to my craft, and my life in general.

There are many influences that guide my writing; including history, human interactions, the outdoors, gardening, and my spirituality. Sharing my feelings and understandings of the Black American experiences with my readers is of paramount importance to me.

My current project is a novel, Cleo the Rail Rat (working title), and trying against the odds, to have it commercially published. Additionally, I love collaborating with musicians and soon will be completing a new video, ‘Mama Dear,’ a story of the mother I never knew.
